Theater workshop opening for children

Lawrence Community Theatre’s fall offerings for children and families will focus on themes from “Beauty and the Beast.”

“School’s Out, Theatre’s In” starts Friday as first- through fifth-graders are invited to “Maurice’s Workshop” to experiment with inventions just like Belle’s inventor father, Maurice. The fee for this session is $26.

The theme will be “Masks and Magic” Oct. 27-28 as students work with costume and special effects materials. The fee is $47.

Sessions all three days run from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. and are sponsored by First State Bank and Trust.

Family Night will be Oct. 25, when parents and children can create their own costume pieces, sneak a peak at a rehearsal and get an inside view of some special effects for the show. This evening is sponsored by the KU Credit Union, and fees will be $22 per parent/child couple with $4 for each additional child.

Enrollment can be completed at the theater, 1501 N.H., or by phone at 843-7469. Some scholarship aid is available, and materials are provided through a grant from the Lawrence Arts Commission.
