Injury Accidents
¢ An Illinois teenager was flown by air ambulance to an area hospital after his car collided with a semi-trailer truck Monday morning on the Kansas Turnpike near Lawrence.
According to the Kansas Highway Patrol, Erick Ovando, 16, of Rockford, Ill., was westbound on the turnpike about 9:50 a.m. in a Buick sedan when he tried to make a U-turn to enter the Lawrence Service Area. He was struck by a semi driven by Rex Neuendorf of Royal Center, Ind.
Ovando was not wearing a seat belt and was taken by LifeStar helicopter to University of Kansas Hospital, Kansas City, Kan. A condition report was not available Monday evening.
