Ex-school administrator pleads guilty in embezzlement case

? A former assistant superintendent at a Long Island school district where auditors uncovered $11.2 million in thefts pleaded guilty in a deal that will send her to prison for up to nine years and force her to repay $4 million.

Pamela Gluckin, 59, of Mastic, pleaded guilty to grand larceny Thursday.

Gluckin agreed to turn over records implicating at least five others in the Roslyn School District embezzlement scheme, including her son, prosecutors said.

The school system in the well-to-do community 20 miles from Manhattan is among the best in the state, sending 95 percent of its graduates to college.

State Comptroller Alan Hevesi has called the case “the largest, most remarkable, most extraordinary theft” from a school system in American history.

Gluckin’s boss, former Superintendent Frank Tassone, pleaded guilty in September. He is expected to repay up to $2 million and receive a prison sentence of four to 12 years.

Gluckin’s niece, Debra Rigano, a 47-year-old former secretary for the school system, also pleaded guilty Thursday to stealing from the district and is expected to get two to six years behind bars.

A report by Hevesi’s office said more than 25 school officials, their friends and families benefited from the more-than-decade-long embezzlement scheme.
