Kronos Quartet to play Lied Center concert

Founded in 1973, the Kronos Quartet recently celebrated 30 years of exploring and breaking the boundaries previously set for string quartets.

The quartet – David Harrington, violin; John Sherba, violin; Hank Dutt, viola; and Jeffrey Zeigler, cello – will debut a new work by composer Gabriela Frank at a Saturday evening Lied Center performance. Frank’s piece, performed in five movements, tells the story of the Inca king, dethroned in 1532 and eventually reinstated to bring justice back to the world.

Other works on the program include John Zorn’s “Cat O’ Nine Tails,” Rahul Dev Burman’s “Mehbooba Mehbooba (Beloved, O, Beloved)” and Steve Reich’s Triple Quartet.

The concert begins at 7:30 p.m., and tickets are available by calling 864-2787.
