In the darkroom, images appear on paper that was white just moments before. The same is true for writing.

But neither photos nor words materialize magically; both require the vision of a creator.

In this case, the artists were photography and creative writing students at Lawrence High School.

Angelia Perkins’ advanced photography class submitted photographs to Joy Clumsky’s creative writing class. The writers interpreted the images in poems. The writers then passed their words back to the shutterbugs, who riffed off their poetry to create visual interpretations.

“This was such a unique experience to view how images are interpreted in various ways by different individuals,” Perkins says.
