Committee seeks wetlands entries

The Committee on Imagination & Place is asking for submissions of visual art and poems, essays, memoirs, letters, fiction and other writings about the Haskell-Baker Wetlands. The word limit is 5,000.

The Haskell-Baker Wetlands area has 573 acres, including 45 acres of prairie wetlands habitat.

Writings should be directly related to the Haskell-Baker Wetlands, and they should include specific, detailed language. The works should exemplify the value of the wetlands, not directly argue their value. Writers’ ability to show rather than tell about the subject will be a criterion. Any length up to 5,000 words will be considered.

Send visual art submissions of slides, prints, or electronic submissions to the Lawrence Arts Center, 940 N.H., Lawrence, KS 66044, Attn: Rick Mitchell, or e-mail to lacgallery@sunflower.com, by July 15.

Send electronic text submissions of prose or poetry to Denise Low at deniselow9@hotmail.com by July 15.
