Music, dance student receives scholarship

Heather Brown, a Kansas University music and dance student, has been awarded the 2005-2006 Elin J. Stene Music Scholarship certificate.

Brown, a senior from Topeka studying music education, is a vice president of membership for the Beta Beta chapter of Sigma Alpha Iota.

SAI is an international professional music fraternity for women. The music scholarship was created through a bequest by Elin Jorgensen Stene, a professor of music education at KU and a charter member of the Lawrence Alumnae and Patroness Chapter of SAI.

Sculpture project seeks proposals

The Santa Fe Drive Sculpture Project is seeking artists for an outdoor sculpture for the roundabout entrance to downtown Overland Park. It is commissioned by the City of Overland Park.

Artists must submit at least eight to 12 images, resume and references.

Playwrights Festival seeking submissions

The Just Off Broadway Theatre Assn. is seeking submissions for the Playwrights Festival of Kansas City 2005, a series of staged readings for the last week in August.

The festival is open to playwrights living in Kansas or Missouri.

There is a $5 submission fee per script. Entries must be postmarked by June 4, 2005.

The playwrights will have an opportunity to direct their readings or have them presented by the Just Off Broadway Theatre Assn.
