Run planned to honor slain student

A four-mile run/walk in May will honor a slain Kansas University student and raise money for a scholarship for social welfare students.

The Teri Mathis Zenner Memorial 4-Mile Run/Walk and Kids Run will be at 7:30 a.m. May 7 at Heritage Park in Olathe. Registration will begin at 6:30 a.m.

Proceeds from entry fees will help endow a scholarship fund for KU graduate students in social welfare in Zenner’s name. Zenner was killed Aug. 17, 2004, while making a visit to a client as part of her job at Johnson County Mental Health Center. The Olathe native had been enrolled at KU’s Edwards Campus in Overland Park and was expected to earn her master’s degree in social welfare in 2005.
