Lawrence Police said Thursday that in the past 24 hours they’d handled:

  • 281 calls
  • 30 reports
  • five burglaries
  • seven thefts
  • seven noninjury accidents
  • A 20-year-old Lawrence woman reported that she was raped between midnight and 2 a.m. on Sunday. The woman reported that she left a party in the southwest of town and began to walk home, said Police Sgt. Dan Ward. He said the man, whom she described as being 5 feet 7 inches with a skinny build, walked along with her to her home. When she got home, the unknown man then entered her home and raped her.

Burglaries and thefts reported

  • A 56-year-old Lawrence man reported that someone stole a silver 2000 Town & Country Chrysler between 2 a.m. and 7 a.m. Wednesday in the 4600 block of Turnberry Drive. The car, valued at $12,500, was being leased from Ogden Leasing Inc. A stereo and a bike also were in the vehicle for a total reported loss of $13,500.
  • A 54-year-old Lawrence man reported that a 2002 Honda Civic LX was stolen between Tuesday evening and Wednesday morning in the 2200 block of Rodeo Drive. The vehicle was valued at $10,000.
  • A 19-year-old Baldwin man reported an auto burglary and theft that happened Feb. 23. The man reported $3,400 worth of items were taken.
