School finance countdown
35 days: The state Supreme Court has given lawmakers until April 12 to produce a constitutional school finance plan.
Tuesday’s highlights
Lawrence business leaders gave Senate President Steve Morris a different perspective on the issue of taxes for schools. Some of them told Morris, R-Hugoton, that they would support a tax increase for schools because better schools were an investment in the economy and future of the state. Morris said more revenue was needed for schools but wasn’t sure a tax increase would pass the Legislature.
