Baker student plays in national honor band

? Jeremy Wohletz, a Baker University student from Basehor, performed Feb. 25 with a national honor band in New York.

Wohletz, a senior clarinetist and music major, was among musicians from 55 colleges nationwide selected for the College Band Directors National Assn.’s Small College Intercollegiate Band. The 73-member band rehearsed at Carnegie Hall before performing in the Alice Tully Hall at Lincoln Center.

“Being chosen to perform in this band would be considered by many as the collegiate musical equivalent of an athlete being picked to an All-American team,” said J.D. Parr, associate professor of music at Baker.

Wohletz, a Basehor-Linwood High School graduate, has twice been named Outstanding Musician of the Year by the Baker music department faculty. He has played on three honor recitals, been selected to the Kansas Intercollegiate Band and performed with the National Wind Ensemble at Carnegie Hall in 2003.
