Cruise not worrying about relationship cynics

New York – Let the cynics talk. Tom Cruise is in love – and he just can’t restrain himself.

“You know what? There’s always cynics. There always has been. There always will be,” said Cruise, who hasn’t been shy about displaying his affection for “Batman Begins” actress Katie Holmes. “I have never worried : about what other people think and what other people say.”

Cruise, 42, and Holmes, 26, went public with their romance in April, smooching and posing for photographers in Rome. They recently became engaged.

Many have doubted the romance – the words “publicity stunt” have rained down on the couple as Cruise has promoted his new film, “War of the Worlds,” directed by Steven Spielberg, which opens on June 29.

“I have to tell you. It’s just a great time in my life,” Cruise said in an interview that aired Friday on NBC’s “Today” show. “I’m really happy. And, you know, I’m engaged. I’m going to be married. I can’t restrain myself.”

The actor, whose marriages to Mimi Rogers and Nicole Kidman ended in divorce, declined to say what Holmes has brought to his life that wasn’t there in the past.

“I don’t want to compare things,” Cruise said. “It’s that thing where you just – in life when it just happens. : You meet someone. And it’s – I can’t even describe it.”

Supermodel Macpherson, partner separating

London – Australian supermodel Elle Macpherson and partner Arpad Busson announced Friday that they are separating.

The couple, who have two sons, said that “whilst remaining the greatest of friends, we have decided to spend some time apart to consider our future.”

They said no third party was involved.

“We have had, and in many ways continue to have, a wonderful relationship, which has produced two beautiful children,” said the statement, which appealed for privacy.

Macpherson, 42, and Swiss financier Busson are the parents of Flynn, 7, and 2-year-old Aurelius Cy.

Macpherson, one of the world’s top earning supermodels in the 1990s, now has her own line of lingerie, Elle Macpherson Intimates.

Nicknamed “The Body” during her modeling career, 6-foot-tall Macpherson has also had a series of movie and television parts. She starred opposite Hugh Grant in the 1994 film “Sirens” and had a recurring role in the TV sitcom “Friends.”

Lohan smacked by ‘Love Bug’

Los Angeles – Lindsay Lohan had a little run-in with Herbie, her Love Bug co-star in the new film, “Herbie: Fully Loaded.”

Lohan plays Maggie Peyton, the new owner of No. 53, the freewheeling Volkswagen Beetle with a mind of its own. She puts the car through its paces on the road to becoming a NASCAR competitor.

When she shot the music video for her song “First” with Herbie, “the car just didn’t stop,” Lohan recently told reporters, according to AP Radio.

“The door flung open and hit me in the video and I kind of looked at Herbie and had to turn down the other way and then I felt the car rolling and not stopping.”

Lohan’s screen credits also include “The Parent Trap” and “Mean Girls.”
