Young volunteers sought for summer

The Youth Volunteer Council, sponsored by the Roger Hill Volunteer Center, can help kids stay busy over summer break. This group organizes several volunteer opportunities per month during the summer. Volunteer projects are planned for the following Saturdays: June 25, July 9, July 16, July 23 and Aug. 6. ¢ Douglas County Senior Services Inc., in cooperation with Senior Health Insurance Counseling for Kansas, is currently recruiting volunteers to become trained counselors. A training session will be Tuesday through Thursday in Lawrence. Volunteers must complete the three-day training course to confidentially counsel Medicare beneficiaries about Medicare, Medicare supplemental insurance, long-term care insurance and more. ¢ ATR Centers, a nonprofit agency providing speech and physical therapy for children, needs a volunteer to assist the director with bookkeeping and light data entry. Training will be provided. For more information, contact Dr. Dee Singer at 841-5215.
¢ Operation WildLife provides rehabilitation services to injured or orphaned wild animals, as well as wildlife education programs. The organization is seeking new wildlife caretaker volunteers for the main facility in Linwood, north of Eudora. Volunteers must first complete an online volunteer application at www.owl-online.org.
