Meeting to discuss future of Kasold Drive

The public will have a chance to ask questions Monday about a future project to rebuild portions of Kasold Drive.

City engineers will host a meeting at 7 p.m. on Monday at the Police Department Training Room, 4820 Bob Billings Parkway, to present information about plans to rebuild Kasold Drive from West 22nd Street to Bob Billings Parkway. Attendees should use the building’s west entrance.

Those unable to attend can send comments to Chuck Soules, director of public works, at P.O. Box 708, Lawrence, 66044 or via e-mail at csoules@ci.lawrence.ks.us.

KDOT surveys US-59

Kansas Department of Transportation workers will begin surveying to prepare for construction of a new U.S. Highway 59.

The surveying will start at the Douglas and Franklin county lines and go north to the four-lane roadway south of Lawrence. Crew members will enter private property when it becomes necessary and with permission from the landowner or tenant.

The $207.3 million project means U.S. Highway 59 will become a four-lane freeway between Lawrence and Ottawa. The new freeway will be located about 300 feet east of the existing U.S. Highway 59.

Contract letting for the Franklin County portion of the project is scheduled for spring 2007 while the Douglas County project will let in late 2007.
