Cruise tries a little mockery with Leno on ‘Tonight Show’

Los Angeles – Tom Cruise may be in love, but he can still poke fun at himself.

Cruise played to the crowd on “The Tonight Show” Wednesday, jumping on Jay Leno’s couch and pumping his arms as he mocked his exuberant display of affection for Katie Holmes on “The Oprah Winfrey Show.”

Last month, the 42-year-old actor created a sensation on “Oprah” when he got down on his knees and repeatedly jumped on the talk-show host’s couch, saying his love for Holmes was “beyond cool.”

“When I start to think about her, things happen,” he told Leno. “So, cease talking.”

A decidedly more subdued Cruise told Leno he was looking forward to traveling, scuba diving and “spending the rest of my life” with Holmes.

“It’s a thing that I wish for everyone,” he said of being in love. “I like hearing good news. : I’m just really happy. She’s a terrific lady, she’s a great lady.”

For her part, Holmes, 26, has told syndicated TV show “Access Hollywood” that she’s “more and more in love every day. It’s like, ‘Wow.'”

Tabloids have speculated the Cruise-Holmes coupling is designed to call attention to their upcoming movies.

Edwards family heads home after chemo treatments

Raleigh, N.C. – With his wife’s cancer treatment complete, former Sen. John Edwards and his family plan to move back to Raleigh from Washington this week.

The former Democratic vice presidential candidate had planned to move his family to a new home in Chapel Hill, but it won’t be ready until next spring, spokeswoman Kim Rubey said. They’ll return instead to their longtime home in west Raleigh.

Elizabeth Edwards, who was diagnosed with breast cancer the day after Sen. John Kerry conceded the November election to President Bush, has completed several months of radiation and chemotherapy and has been recuperating from surgery in Washington.

“She is feeling great, and the doctors are incredibly positive and optimistic,” Rubey said.

They have put their home in Washington’s Georgetown neighborhood on the market for $6.5 million. The four-story house they bought for $3.8 million in December 2002 was built in 1830 and has been extensively remodeled.

Delays may cost Seagal

Los Angeles – Steven Seagal has been sued for $14 million for allegedly delaying production on two movies.

Seagal showed up late and left early while shooting “Today You Die” and “Mercenary,” routinely rewrote and changed scripts on the set, and brought an entourage that interfered with film crews, alleged a lawsuit filed Monday in Superior Court by Kill Master Productions and its sales agent, Nu Image.

The 54-year-old actor is best known for his martial-arts moves in films such as “Under Siege” and “Exit Wounds.”

In one instance, Seagal allegedly arrived 45 minutes late while filming “Today You Die” and left the location 3 1/2 hours early.

Because of his actions, some scenes were never shot, leaving the movie with a “material and irreparable problem with story logic,” according to the lawsuit.

Cash offers accepted

Hendersonville, Tenn. – Johnny and June Carter Cash’s lakeside home, where the couple lived for 35 years, is on the market. Asking price: $2.9 million.

The 13,880-square-foot house and 4.6-acre property are on the edge of Old Hickory Lake. Seven pieces of antique furniture, including their bed, are included in the sale.

“No one in the family was in a position to live there,” said Cathy Sullivan, the estate’s co-trustee. “That home has so many happy memories, for anyone to stay there it would not have seemed the same.”

The house needs some maintenance work but is otherwise in “very good condition,” said Johnny Cash’s brother, Tommy Cash, who is the acting real estate agent.

Johnny Cash became a towering figure in American music with hits such as “Folsom Prison Blues,” “I Walk the Line” and “A Boy Named Sue.” Both Cash and his wife died in 2003.

Tommy Cash said during impromptu visits to the couple’s home, he met everyone from President Carter to actor James Garner.

Jackson jury has short day

Santa Maria, Calif. – The jury in the Michael Jackson molestation case ended its work early Thursday after deliberating for about 2 1/2 hours.

The shortened day was scheduled to allow some jurors to attend school graduations. Deliberations will resume at 8:30 a.m. today.

Thursday was the fifth day of discussions among the eight women and four men on the jury. There have been about 23 hours of deliberations since the jury received the case a week ago.

Jackson, 46, is charged with molesting a 13-year-old boy in early 2003. He is also charged with giving the boy alcohol to aid the molestation.

Wednesday night, Jackson returned to Santa Ynez Valley Cottage Hospital in Solvang for a previously arranged treatment for his back, according to a statement issued by spokeswoman Raymone Bain. The pop star is back at his Neverland ranch awaiting a verdict.

Jurors have asked just one question, but the details are unknown.
