It’s a girl for Richards, Sheen

New York – Denise Richards has given birth to a daughter, People magazine reported.

Richards, who filed for divorce from Charlie Sheen in March, gave birth to the couple’s second daughter, Lola, Wednesday night at a Los Angeles hospital, her publicist confirmed to the magazine. The baby weighed 6 pounds, 10 ounces.

Sheen was present when Richards gave birth, and mother and daughter are doing fine, People reported Thursday.

The couple have a 15-month-old daughter, Sam.

Richards, 34, married Sheen in June 2002. They met while shooting the independent film “Good Advice” in 2000 and appeared in 2003’s “Scary Movie 3.”

In divorce papers filed March 2, Richards cited irreconcilable differences. It was her first marriage and Sheen’s second. They began dating after Richards guest-starred on Sheen’s former TV series, “Spin City.”

Slap no laughing matter for Gallagher audience member

Laughlin, Nev. – Police are investigating a California man’s claim that comedian Gallagher slapped him during a show at a southern Nevada casino.

No criminal charges have been filed on the misdemeanor battery complaint, Las Vegas police Sgt. Chris Jones said Wednesday.

William Edwin May III, 40, of Anaheim, filed a police report May 27, several hours after the incident at Don Laughlin’s Riverside Resort Hotel & Casino. It alleges that Gallagher walked on a table, berated a waitress and slapped May on the side of the head.

Gallagher, 58, is best known for smashing watermelons with a sledgehammer.

He acknowledged in an interview with the Las Vegas Review-Journal that he struck an audience member, but compared it with throwing a pie in someone’s face.

“It got a laugh, and that’s what this is about,” he said.

Gallagher was fired from his Memorial Day weekend booking after protesting the policy of selling drinks during his show, Roy Jernigan, Riverside entertainment director, told the Review-Journal.

Gallagher said he quit.

The comedian had worked at the Riverside for more than a decade.

McCartney pens ‘Furry Tail’

New York – Move over, Madonna: Paul McCartney is getting into children’s books.

Penguin Young Readers Group announced Wednesday it will publish the former Beatles’ “High in the Clouds: An Urban Furry Tail.”

McCartney teamed with veteran children’s book author Philip Ardagh and animator Geoff Dunbar. The picture book is to be released this October with a first print of 500,000 copies.

“Having worked on this story and the characters for many years, it’s very exciting for me to see things come to fruition in what I think will be a remarkable book,” McCartney said in a statement.

The story was inspired by the animated film “Tropic Island Hum,” which Dunbar and McCartney collaborated on. It follows the story of two friends – a squirrel and a frog – who save a number of animals.
