Master piano classes open to public
John Perry, the 2005 International Institute for Young Musicians Distinguished Visiting Professor and former piano professor at Kansas University, will offer master classes this week.
Perry, currently on the faculty at the Colburn School and the Royal Conservatory of Music, is “universally acknowledged as one of the two or three greatest teachers in the world,” said Scott McBride Smith, IIYM president.
Master classes are planned for 4 p.m. Monday and Tuesday at Swarthout Recital Hall at Kansas University. They are free and open to the public.
Art Guild announces new officers
The Lawrence Art Guild has elected new officers and coordinators. Elections take place at the May meeting each year.
The following artist-members will serve for the year 2005-2006: Linda Baranski, president; Cathy Robins, vice president; Pam Rees, treasurer; Sue Suhler, secretary and public relations coordinator; and Laurie Culling, art exhibit coordinator.
New members are invited to join the Lawrence Art Guild. Membership details and the artists’ gallery are shown on the guild Web site, www.lawrenceartguild.org.
Guild meetings take place from 6:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. on the third Monday of each month, except during July, August and December. The meeting location is the Lawrence Public Library auditorium, 707 Vt.
