Theater to audition American Indian women

Washburn University’s Theater Department will audition American Indian women for the play “Unnatural and Accidental Women” at 7 p.m. Feb. 4 and 1 p.m. Feb. 5 at the Garvey Fine Arts Center in Topeka.

Written by First Nations playwright Marie Clements, the play tells the story of a young native woman looking for her missing mother. The young woman stumbles upon her mother’s murderer. Assisted by her mother’s spirit and those of other Indian women the man has killed, she avenges her mother’s death.

The play will be directed by Julie Little Thunder (Creek). It has roles for seven American Indian women ages 20 to 60.

No previous acting experience is required to audition.
