Arraignment slated in pregnant woman’s slaying

? The Kansas woman charged with strangling a northwest Missouri woman and cutting the unborn baby from her womb will be arraigned Thursday.

Lisa Montgomery, 36, of Melvern, Kan., faces a federal charge of kidnapping resulting in death for the December slaying of Bobbie Jo Stinnett, a 23-year-old who was eight-months-pregnant with her first child. The arraignment will be Montgomery’s first chance to enter a plea.

Stinnett’s body was found in a pool of blood in her Skidmore home on Dec. 16, and her baby was found alive the next day with Montgomery in Kansas. The baby, Victoria Jo Stinnett, survived and is with her father, Zeb Stinnett.

Prosecutors said Montgomery went to Stinnett’s home, strangled her with a rope and then used a kitchen knife to cut the baby from Stinnett’s womb.
