Sub-zero wind chills expected overnight

Get set for another cold, blustery day, as wind chill readings will be in the teens. And it’s going to get even colder tonight, says Tim Reith, 6News meteorologist.

“Watch out. The windchills will be approaching zero — even below zero — as we head into the early morning hours,” Reith said.

But a cold arctic air mass is moving in, keeping temperatures below freezing, he said.

“The sunshine has returned, but it will not help our temperatures very much,” Reith said.

About 9 a.m. today, the temperature was 26, with a windchill of 14 degrees caused by 15 mph north to northwest winds.

Today’s high will reach only 31, with wind blowing about 12 to 18 mph from the north and northwest, making for wind chill readings in the teens, Reith said.

The temperature will continue to fall overnight, reaching a low of 9 by early Friday morning, with northerly winds 8 to 12 mph, he said.

Friday’s high will reach only 16, he said. Saturday ‘s morning low will be 4, with Saturday’s high reaching only 15.
