Cold and blustery end to February

February’s last day is a cold one. This afternoon’s temperatures will reach only the upper 30s, with blustery winds gusting up to 30 mph, keeping wind chills in the 20s or below, says Jennifer Schack, 6News meteorologist.

At 12:15 p.m., the temperature was 28, with a northerly 13-26-mph wind making the wind chill 10 degrees.

Lawrence will stay dry today, but there will be a few clouds, she said. A cold front is moving in from the northwest, bringing cloudy skies and cold temperatures, she said.

“We’re only going to stay in the 30s throughout the day today,” she said. The high will be 37, with northwest winds 15 to 22 mph, gusting up to 30 mph. “The wind chill will be staying in the 20s today.”

Overnight, the temperature will fall to a low of 16 by early Tuesday morning.

“It’s a very cold start to the month of March,” Schack said. Tuesday’s high will climb to 42, with northwest winds 5-10 mph. The average high for March 1 is 51, she said.

Wednesday’s morning low will be 20, with the high reaching 42. Wednesday’s skies will be partly cloudy.
