Lawrence soaking up some sun today

The Lawrence area has finally emerged from the cloudy weather, with clear skies and plenty of sunshine in the forecast today, says Jennifer Schack, 6News meteorologist.

“It’s a much better afternoon today than you’ve had all week long,” Schack said. “It’s a fine finale to the work week, with temperatures climbing into the 50s.”

At 12:30 p.m., the temperature was 44 degrees with 8-20 mph winds from the west, creating a wind chill of 32.

Today’s high will be 51 by late afternoon. The average high for this date is 49.

Overnight, temperatures will fall to a low of 28 by early Friday morning.

Skies will continue to be mostly sunny Friday as the high climbs to 58, with southwest winds 10-15 mph, Schack said.

Saturday’s morning low will start at 30, with temperatures climbing to a high of 59 by Saturday afternoon. But the clouds will also be moving in, she said.

Sunday’s morning low will be 33, with the high reaching 49. Schack said there is a chance for showers and possibly snow on Sunday night.
