School finance countdown

55 days: The state Supreme Court has given lawmakers until April 12 to produce a constitutional school finance plan.

Wednesday’s highlights

Gov. Kathleen Sebelius and her budget director, Duane Goossen, in separate meetings put out the word that Republican school finance proposals will need new revenue or they will bust future budgets.

  • Atty. Gen. Phill Kline went public to defend himself and conservative members of the State Board of Education for meetings held last week. Kline told a Senate committee that the meetings complied with state law.
