Two charged in stabbing at Haskell
Prosecutors have charged two brothers in connection with a weekend knife fight at Haskell Indian Nations University.
Dist. Atty. Charles Branson’s office on Monday filed charges of aggravated battery against Mighty James Big Pond, 19, and David J. Big Pond, 21.
The charges stem from a fight shortly after 10 p.m. Saturday that left a 19-year-old Haskell Indian Nations University student with cuts on his hand and abdomen. According to a police report, the victim and a friend, also age 19, were walking to Roe Cloud Hall when they saw the two suspects, with whom they’d had a previous altercation at Club 508, 508 Locust St.
The two suspects turned and chased the victims, and the fight began, said Sgt. Dan Ward, a Lawrence Police spokesman.
David Big Pond also suffered injuries during the fight. Police arrested him and his brother after they went to Lawrence Memorial Hospital for treatment.
