Release of report on school finance delayed

The public release of a much-anticipated report on school finance has been delayed until Jan. 6.

No reason was given for the delay.

The report by the Legislative Division of Post Audit initially was scheduled to be released Jan. 4.

The report will focus on what it costs to provide an education in Kansas and how much it would cost to have a public school system that would give the state’s 450,000 students a chance at reaching a proficient academic level.

With school funding making up one-half of the state budget, the cost study is seen as one of the major factors of the legislative session that starts Jan. 9.
