Hearing in arson case postponed until Feb. 3

A preliminary hearing was postponed Tuesday for a man charged with setting three arson fires in Lawrence in March 2004.

The defense attorney for David R. Jay, 25, said she needed more time to review police reports and talk with witnesses.

Judge Robert Fairchild scheduled a day-long hearing for Feb. 3.

Jay is charged with setting fires at Watson Library on the Kansas University campus; Clinton Parkway Nursery & Garden Store, 4900 Clinton Parkway; and a dental office on Country Club Terrace.

Jay recently was convicted of setting a series of similar fires in Johnson County and sentenced to six years and four months in prison.
