Kids books recast for today’s readers

? Kids, meet Robin Hood and Sherlock Holmes, Anne of Green Gables and Black Beauty.

Sterling Publishing introduces younger readers, particularly 7- to 9-year-olds, to classic books by rewriting them using words the children are able to read and comprehend. The changes to the books are made by Arthur Pober, an author and education,

Also, educator Arthur Pober writes an afterword for each title that explains to parents and teachers how to use the abridged versions within their children’s reading patterns, and he suggests discussion questions.

To bridge the gap between picture books and chapter books, artist Lucy Corvino draws occasional black-and-white illustrations to enhance the text.
