Hungry, sick Florida fugitive caught in Georgia

? Stale Krispy Kreme doughnuts and a Georgia woman’s sharp eye led to the capture of an escaped Florida prisoner who eluded authorities for more than four days.

Dominic Reddick, 22, was in jail Saturday after he tried to recover a box of old doughnuts from a trash bin about 30 miles south of Savannah, Ga., officials said. He is accused of trying to kill an Orlando police officer in February, along with other crimes.

“He told us he was desperate and that he was hungry and that he was lost,” said Supervisory Deputy Jennifer Armstrong of the U.S. Marshals Service.

Reddick, who lost his pants while on the run, was arrested about 11:30 p.m. Friday near a gas station and convenience store off Interstate 95. He was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment of scrapes on his face, hands and legs that he received while hiding in forests and swamps, according to authorities.

He also had pneumonia.

Reddick was being held at the Liberty County Jail. Officials said he told them he would not fight a return to Florida.
