Chicago Osyp Firishchak has wrongly enjoyed the benefits of life in America for more than 50 years and should lose the citizenship he gained after World War II, a federal judge ruled Tuesday.
U.S. District Judge Samuel Der-Yeghiayan revoked Firishchak's citizenship after he concluded the 86-year-old retired North Side carpenter lied about his membership in the Ukrainian Auxiliary Police during the war.
The Ukrainian Auxiliary Police enforced Nazi persecutions against Jews in what was then eastern Poland and is now Ukraine.
Firishchak is the 101st successful prosecution for the Department of Justice's Office of Special Investigations, a unit created to hunt Nazis.
