Kansas University football coach Mark Mangino announced Friday afternoon that he has suspended sophomore fullback Bruce Ringwood from the Jayhawks indefinitely in the aftermath of an altercation last Sunday night at a country music concert in Kansas City, Mo.
"I have suspended Bruce until we gather all the facts related to this incident," Mangino said. "I'm disturbed that one of our players would be involved in something like this. We have high standards of conduct that we expected from our student-athletes. This behavior goes against everything we stand for at the University of Kansas."
The 20-year-old Ringwood - who was arrested at Kemper Arena on Sunday and charged with assault, after allegedly being involved in a scuffle with a husband and wife at a Kenny Chesney show - also issued a statement Friday.
"I would like to apologize to my teammates, coaches and my university for my involvement in this incident," Ringwood said. "I regret that it happened, and my focus now is on doing everything I can do to be a good student and good football player."

Knew we could count on coach Mangino to do the right thing. Eventually these student athletes will learn there are consequences for thier actions and this type of behavior is unacceptable.

Well done.

why are the only players getting busted from KU footbal team always miners? Mangino has no control, his underage players are in bars (Yacht Club and Jetlag mostly) every night, I saw one of his linemen get beat up in a "fightnight" at the Ranch last spring, then get in a fight in the parking lot

Oh yea, you never see a KU basketball player at the bards :)

thank you mangino for doing the right thing. he should never play ball at ku again. i hope someone goes and punches ringwoods momma then see how he feels.

never said that. What I'm saying is that we sure do give a lot of entitlement to a bunch of guys who aren't even good at what they do, (4-7 this year, tops) But even if they were, why are the underage players always getting arrested at with booze related offenses? There should be a zero tolerance for this from KU, screw what the coaches think. These guys are gettinga free education (when they bother to go to class!)

im all for discipline but indefinately is too much. i think its manginos way of making up for the scandals this summer to show KU has discipline and all that stuff. half a season would be enough especially if the kid goes to practice every day.

How about if he goes to jail like most anyone else would when charged with aggravated battery. He should lose his scholership.

For once, I agree with topflight.

It seems that nothing should surprise us anymore with college athletics. These kids think they own the world and that everybody should bow to them. However, that is the biggest line I have ever heard from the KU PR department at the end of this article.
