Motet Singers to perform in D.C.

The Motet Singers, a community choral group in Lawrence, has been invited to perform the Choral Prelude at the Washington National Cathedral’s celebration of Kansas State Day.

The Aug. 21 performance will be the first part of the worship service to honor all Kansans, regardless of faith backgrounds, that Sunday.

The Motet Singers were organized by Dr. David A. Grisafe in 1975 for the primary purpose of singing sacred choral works from the Renaissance Period (16th and 17th centuries). The 16-member group performs annually in St. John’s Catholic Church and Trinity Episcopal Church in Lawrence, at St. John the Baptist (Croatian) Church on Strawberry Hill in Kansas City, Kan., and at Grace Cathedral in Topeka. Members also sing at weddings, clubs, banquets, fundraising events, Kansas University and Baker University functions, and with other concert groups. Dr. Grisafe continues as director.
