Aggressive solicitor has license pulled

Police said they revoked a door-to-door solicitor’s license Thursday afternoon after he grew too aggressive while trying to peddle his cleaning product to a 54-year-old Lawrence woman.

The incident happened at 3:45 p.m. in the 1600 block of Crescent Road, said Capt. David Cobb, a Lawrence Police spokesman.

The woman told police the man made strange comments to her, such as telling her “Lady, this is not a joke” and asking her why she didn’t join a circus, according to a report.

The solicitor was a 25-year-old man from Roswell, Ga.

Under city code, door-to-door solicitors are required to have a license issued by the city clerk’s office. It can be revoked by police if the salesperson conducts business in a way that’s a “breach of the peace.”
