‘No comment’ about Chiefs’ move to Kansas

A “no comment” from Kansas City Chiefs’ president and chief executive officer Carl Peterson has fueled speculation about a possible effort to woo the NFL team from Missouri to Kansas.

Last week, Peterson was grumbling about the Missouri legislature’s refusal to earmark tax money to improve the Chiefs’ Arrowhead Stadium in Kansas City, Mo.

Asked if he had spoken with Gov. Kathleen Sebelius on the possibility of building a new stadium in Kansas, Peterson said, “I won’t comment on that.”

On Monday, when Sebelius was asked if there were any discussions going on, she said, “At this point, there have been no official conversations.”

She said Jackson County – home of the Truman Sports Complex, which includes Arrowhead and the Kansas City Royals’ Kauffman Stadium – has the contract for the two teams.

“While I think there are lots of people who are interested in exploring the possibilities, I mean, I think it’s in the Jackson County purview right now,” Sebelius said.
