They may never share the same gallery again. But until Aug. 28, a group of wildly diverse works of art - from paintings to photographs, lithographs to DVDs - are on view in the Spencer Museum of Art's South Balcony Gallery.
The unique exhibit gives visitors a chance to see recent additions to the museum's permanent collection, which now surpasses 25,000 objects.
A 1930 Japanese color woodcut shares space with a 1559 Flemish etching. A 1914 French lithograph hangs near a 2004 German photograph.
Viewed collectively, museum officials say, the works reframe the human condition. Their contrasts ultimately become more about connections than disparities, inspiring questions and inviting fresh interpretations and deeper meanings.
The Spencer galleries are open 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday and Saturday; 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Thursday; and noon to 5 p.m. Sunday.
