Lawrence Police said Tuesday that in the past 24 hours they’d handled:

  • 316 calls
  • 33 reports
  • four burglaries
  • three thefts
  • five noninjury accidents
  • one injury accident
  • An Overbrook man reported finding two dead calves in a ditch Monday afternoon on North 450 Road. The calves were marked with yellow stickers that had numbers and bar codes printed on them, he told the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office.

Injury accidents

  • A car struck a pedestrian who was crossing New Hampshire Street about 2 a.m. Sunday in downtown Lawrence. Luke J. Fender, 26, Lawrence, was driving south on New Hampshire when Jasmine Al-Shathir, 26, Hermosa, Ca., ran from the sidewalk into the road and into the side of Fender’s 1970 Buick, according to a report. Police believe Al-Shathir was under the influence of alcohol, according to a report. She was taken by ambulance to Lawrence Memorial Hospital.
  • Police on Tuesday identified the driver in a rollover wreck on East 1600 Road as Ann R. Wilson, 45, Leawood. The wreck happened about 5:15 p.m. Monday when she lost control of her 1999 Toyota sedan on gravel. The cause is still under investigation. She was taken to University of Kansas Hospital in Kansas City, Kan.

Burglaries and thefts reported

  • Someone took $1,420 in property, including a PlayStation 2 and two Nintendo Game Cubes, from a Kansas University student’s apartment in the 4500 block of Wimbledon Drive. The incident happened between 6:15 p.m. Saturday and 12:15 p.m. Sunday, according to a police report.
  • A 1994 Nissan Maxima valued at $1,500 disappeared between 2:30 a.m. and 7:45 a.m. Friday from the 2100 block of Crossgate Drive, according to a report. It belonged to a 20-year-old KU student.
  • A 94-year-old woman is missing a gold ring valued at $1,000. It disappeared between March 29 and April 5 at her home in the 3000 block of West 31st Street, according to a report.
  • Someone took three black leather couches valued at $2,000 total from the Phi Kappa Theta fraternity house, 1111 W. 11th St. The incident happened between 4 a.m. and 9:30 a.m. Saturday. The front door of the home had been unlocked.
