Chamber orchestra to perform at high school

The Lawrence Chamber Orchestra will present its Spring Sinfonietta at 3 p.m. Sunday at Free State High School, 4700 Overland Drive.

It will feature the piano finalists from the orchestra’s 2005 Young Musician Competition and string students from the Talent Education Studio of Lawrence.

Tickets can be bought at Lawrence Arts Center, 940 N.H., and will be available at the door. They are $15 for adults, $10 for students and $5 for children under 12.

High school students place in national contest

Three Lawrence high school students placed in the recent National Scholastic Art and Writing Awards competition.

Free State High School senior Garrett Wiens-Kind received a gold for his animation video. His video will be featured with other national winners in June at The Corcoran Gallery of Art in Washington, D.C.

FSHS senior Dulcie Shultz received a silver award for her portfolio.

Lawrence High School senior Annie Lock received a silver award in sculpture.

The students will be honored at a national awards ceremony June 2 at Carnegie Hall in New York.

The competition’s mission was to provide a creative platform of expression for students nationally.

Quilters to have show in McLouth

The Kansa Prairie Quilters will sponsor a quilt show in conjunction with the Patriot Days celebration from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday at the United Methodist Church in McLouth.

Quilting techniques will be demonstrated at the show.
