International Awareness Week events planned

Kansas University’s International Student Assn. will be host to International Awareness Week Sunday through Friday. The week’s events are:

  • “Flavors of the World,” kickoff dinner, 4:30 p.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday, Ecumenical Christian Ministries, 1204 Oread Ave. Free dinner (donations encouraged) features international cuisine; cooks or associations reimbursed up to $20 for preparing a dish for 15 people.
  • KU’s Third Annual World Music and Cultural Diversity Concert, “Cultural Landscapes: Music as a Symbol in the Midst of Tragedy,” featuring Antonio Andrade & Fiesta Flamenca performing “Noches de Amor” (Nights of Love), 7 p.m. Sunday, Liberty Hall, 642 Mass.
  • KU’s International Student Assn. Cup (Soccer Tournament), 5 p.m. to 7 p.m., Monday and Tuesday, soccer fields near Clinton Lake. Each team needs at least eight members; $10 registration fee per team. Deadline for team sign-up is at Sunday’s kickoff dinner.   • International symposium: “How the World Views Us: International View of the U.S.,” Deborah J. Gerner, KU professor of political science, 6:30 p.m.-8 p.m. Wednesday, Alderson Auditorium, Kansas Union.
  • Language fair, featuring cookies and tea, opportunity to learn to say a few phrases in different languages, 3 p.m.-4:30 p.m. Thursday, south lobby, Kansas Union.
  • International symposium: “The Changing Role of War in the International Community,” Philip Schrodt, KU professor of political science, 6:30 p.m.-8 p.m. Thursday, Kansas Room, Kansas Union.
  • World Expo and Fashion Show, noon-6 p.m. Friday, Kansas Union Ballroom and parlors; due date for singing up your country is Wednesday; send e-mails to isa@ku.edu.
  • Festival of Nations, featuring display of musical and athletic performances by KU community, 7 p.m.-10 p.m. Friday, Kansas Union Ballroom and parlors; to sign up, send e-mails to isa@ku.edu, include “Festival of Nations” in subject line.
