Isolated thunderstorms possible today

“It looks like a chance for some spring thunderstorms this afternoon,” said Jennifer Schack, 6News meteorologist. Lawrence is under a slight risk of severe weather this afternoon through 7 a.m. Wednesday, Schack said.
At 8:10 a.m., the city’s temperature was 62, with cloudy skies, a southerly 13-mph wind and 80 percent humidity.
Schack said skies will be partly cloudy through the morning. Today’s high will be 76, with winds from the south at 14-18 mph.
“We’ll have another breezy afternoon with clouds and a chance for some afternoon storms,” Schack said. Lawrence will be on the northern edge of the heaviest thunderstorm activity in the state, she said.
The National Weather Service says the chance for precipitation is 70 percent this afternoon. Overnight, there will be periods of showers and thunderstorms, with the possibility of some severe storms before 1 a.m., then showers and thunderstorms after 1 a.m., according to the National Weather Service.
“I think we see our best chance to get wet early Wednesday morning,” Schack said.
Tonight’s temperature will fall to 56 by early Wednesday morning. Wednesday’s high temperature will be 61 degrees, Schack said. Winds will be gusty up to 30 mph, with an 80 percent chance for precipitation, according to the National Weather Service.
.Thursday’s morning low will be 43, with the high climbing to 57 Thursday afternoon under mostly cloudy skies, Schack said.
