Set in the final days leading up to the American evacuation of Saigon in 1975, the play tells the story of a U.S. Marine named Chris (Alan Gillespie) and a Vietnamese woman named Kim (Jennifer Paz) who fall deeply in love in an after-hours club run by The Engineer (Johann Michael Camat).

After the fall of Saigon, Chris returns to the United States, leaving a pregnant Kim behind, and marries Ellen (Ashley Hunt).

Three years later, Kim and Chris meet in Bangkok, where Kim begs Chris and Ellen to take her young son back to America, where she believes he can have a better life.

Kim eventually goes to great lengths to achieve what she believes is best for her little boy.

Alain Boublil and Claude-Michel Schnberg, the creators of “Les Miserables,” wrote “Miss Saigon,” basing it on the story of Puccini’s opera “Madama Butterfly.”

The show’s musical numbers — including “The Heat is On in Saigon,” “The Movie in My Mind” and “Why God Why” — conjure up the steamy nights, crowds, passion and danger of Saigon.
