Summer ends with shot of sunshine

It’s a good ending — warm temperatures and blue skies are in store for the Lawrence area’s last full day of summer.

“We’ll have one more shot of that summer sunshine,” said Jennifer Schack, 6News meteorologist. “It’s very beautiful out there, with blue skies.”

The temperature was expected to be 79 at noon, climbing to 85 by late afternoon. South winds will be between 10 and 15 mph, with gusts as high as 25 mph.

“A quiet, cool night is in store,” Schack said. Temperatures will drop overnight to a low of 59 by early Wednesday morning. The moon will be waxing crescent and will be 49 percent illuminated tonight.

For Wednesday, the first day of autumn, the temperature will also climb to 85, with southeast winds 5 to 15 mph.

Thursday morning’s low will be 60, with the high reaching 79 by Thursday afternoon. Thursday’s skies will be cloudy, with a chance for showers and thunderstorms, Schack said.

The National Weather Service says the chance for showers and thunderstorms is 20 percent early Thursday morning, 30 percent during the day on Thursday and 20 percent Thursday night.
