Rain in forecast for Wednesday

Another dry, warm, breezy day is in store for Lawrence. But cooler conditions — and the possibility of some wet weather — is coming up Wednesday, says Jennifer Schack, 6News meteorologist.

“The cold front rolls through the area tomorrow, bringing a chance for rainfall,” Schack said. “We could pick up a shower or a thunderstorm from that cold front.”

This morning, temperatures were in the upper 60s and were expected to climb to 85 by noon and to 91 by late afternoon, Schack said. The average high is 82 for this date. South winds will be 20 to 25 mph, with some gusts up to 35 mph, she said.

“There is a cold front off to the north and west of us,” she said. “We’ll stay mostly sunny to partly cloudy. It will be a rather breezy and warm afternoon.”

Overnight, the temperature will drop to a low of 69, with winds 10 to 20 mph, she said.

The cold front will come through Lawrence during the middle of the day on Wednesday, possibly brewing up some thunderstorms in the late morning through the afternoon, Schack said.

“We could see a midday thunderstorm coming through tomorrow,” she said. The National Weather Service says there’s a 20 percent chance for showers and thunderstorms in Lawrence tonight with the rain chances increasing to 40 percent on Wednesday.

The cold front will bring cooler temperatures. Wednesday’s high will be 85, with northwest winds 10-15. The overnight low will drop to 58 by early Thursday morning.

Thursday’s high will be 84, under mostly sunny skies
