A small plane that crashed in southwestern Kansas was discovered Monday with its dead pilot aboard.

The plane was discovered about two miles west of Liberal Airport.

The pilot, 37-year-old Michael T. Manary of Florida, was the only person aboard, the Kansas Highway Patrol said.

The S1S single-engine plane lost altitude, went into a spin and crashed about 2:30 p.m. Sunday, officials said.
