The sun is down today
A shadow wide enough to bury it
The summer is dead
And when it passed away I saw it
lift the sky
and leave the columns
standing in place
balancing the weight

We had a good talk Sunday
Jewel afternoon in the shade
I should have had a drink
I know there’s more I wanted to say
and now I can’t explain

Here I am a child
Wild and indiscreet
A mystery to me
Don’t defend me
I’m learning to be more like you

I’m building a frame
Capturing the light for a portrait of you
In black and white
Standing out on Bryant Street
With winter on your shoulders
