Van Go artists offer holiday adornments
Fresh, funky and even functional art will be for sale at Van Go Mobile Arts Adornment Show.
The annual event gives shoppers the chance to buy holiday gifts created by Lawrence youth enrolled in Van Go's vocational arts training program.
The show kicks off with a reception from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. Saturday at the Van Go studio, 715 N.J. The gallery will remain open from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday until Dec. 23.
In its sixth year, the show will feature glass bowls, mirrors, magnets, poetry books, prints, paintings, photography and three-dimensional objects such as painted watering cans and mosaic lamps.
Symphonic Band to perform diverse works
The Kansas University Symphonic Band will perform a diverse program at its next concert, 7:30 p.m. Tuesday the Lied Center.
The program includes works ranging from a musical portrait of Gandalf, the beloved wizard from J.R.R. Tolkien's "Lord of the Rings," to a piece celebrating American alligators.
Tom Stidham, associate director of bands, conducts the approximately 50-member ensemble comprised of music and nonmusic majors. Sharon Leopold assists.
Tickets are $7 for adults, $5 for students and seniors, and are available by calling 864-2787.
