Lawrence Police said Friday that in the previous 24 hours they’d handled:

  • 269 calls
  • 32 reports
  • one burglary
  • two thefts
  • five noninjury accidents
  • Lawrence Police are searching for a black two-door sports car thought to have been involved in a hit-and-run collision Friday night near 26th and Iowa streets.

The collision, which occurred around 9 p.m., sent a man to the hospital. Police spokesman Sgt. Paul Fellers said the northbound car struck the man on Iowa Street. After hitting the man, the driver headed north on Iowa.

Burglaries and thefts reported

  • Someone broke into the home of a 35-year-old Lawrence woman, emptied two piggy banks and stole items including compact discs and video games. The value of items stolen and damage to the home was estimated at $1,055. It happened between 8 a.m. and 2:10 p.m. Monday in the 3300 block of Iowa Street.
  • A 25-year-old Lawrence man reported three guns stolen between 10 a.m. and 11 a.m. Nov. 11 from his home in the 2200 block of Harper Street. The guns were a Ruger .45-caliber semiautomatic handgun, a Smith & Wesson .22-caliber handgun and a Henry .22-caliber lever-action rifle. Also stolen was $190 worth of 50-cent pieces.
