'We Are Family' revisited for kids
New York (ap) -- Look out, kids. SpongeBob SquarePants, Barney and Clifford the Big Red Dog are joining forces to rerecord the disco tune "We Are Family" to promote diversity and tolerance in classrooms.
A video starring the three children's characters plus nearly 100 others, including Dora the Explorer and Arthur, will be distributed to 61,000 public and private elementary schools nationwide, along with lesson plans for teachers. It will air simultaneously on Nickelodeon, the Public Broadcasting Service and the Disney Channel in March.
"This is an unprecedented event. For the first time characters from all of the important kids shows came together to appear in the same video," said video producer Christopher Cerf.
The We Are Family Foundation was founded by singer-songwriter Nile Rodgers, who wrote the song recorded in 1979 by Sister Sledge. The nonprofit organization supports multiculturalism programs.

New York -- Rocker David Lee Roth, the former Van Halen frontman, is taking up a new trade.
Roth, 50, has been riding for several weeks with a New York ambulance crew in training to become a paramedic, The New York Post reported Tuesday.
"I have been on over 200 individual rides now," Roth said. "Not once has anyone recognized me, which is perfect for me."
Roth takes his work so seriously that he did not want publicity so that it would not "diminish what I am trying to do here."
"You would never know you were dealing with a rock 'n' roll guy," said Linda Reissman, Roth's EMT consultant and tutor. "His commitment really is touching. He wants to help people."
Everything's perfecto
Los Angeles -- Britney Spears and Kevin Federline have filed their marriage license with the county registrar's office, an agency spokeswoman said Tuesday.
The "Oops! ... I Did It Again" singer, 22, married Federline during a Sept. 18 ceremony in a Studio City home, but didn't immediately file the license with the county, raising questions about whether they were legally wed.
Kathy Tacawy, a county registrar's spokeswoman, confirmed the documents were filed in Los Angeles County within the 10-day legal window and that the marriage was official.
In a recent posting on her Web site, Spears wrote: "This is the happiest I've ever been in my life. ... We are just settling into our new home, and it is coming together perfectly.
"I'm redecorating a lot of things because when we decide to start a family, everything in it needs to be perfecto!"
Now fear this

The participants include "Survivor" alums Ethan Zohn and Jenna Morasca, "Amazing Race's" Reichen Lehmkuhl, "The Bachelorette's" Ryan Sutter, "American Idol" also-ran Nikki McKibbin and "Apprentice" trouble-maker Omarosa Manigault-Stallworth.
Fight breaks out at Vibe awards taping
Santa Monica, Calif. -- A fight broke out near the stage at the Vibe awards ceremony as rapper Snoop Dogg and producer Quincy Jones were preparing to honor Dr. Dre., and one person was stabbed, authorities and witnesses said.
Dozens of people sitting near the stage Monday inside a hangar at the Santa Monica airport began shoving each other as the show wound down about 7:30 p.m. News video showed chairs being thrown, punches flying, people chasing one another and some being restrained.
It was unclear if the stabbing preceded or followed the fight. The victim, a 26-year-old man, was taken to a hospital and was listed in stable condition.
No arrests were made.
Witness Frank Williams said Dr. Dre was involved in the brawl.
"I saw Dr. Dre fighting somebody," Williams told KCAL-TV.
The Los Angeles Times, citing an unnamed associate of Dr. Dre, said the melee broke out as the acclaimed hip-hop producer was waiting to receive the Vibe Legend Award.
