Law enforcement report

Police are investigating a possible case of mistreatment of a 66-year-old dependent adult. Family members reported Saturday to police that they were concerned someone hired to take care of the woman at her central Lawrence home wasn’t doing the job properly, police said. Police would not comment about more details of the case Tuesday, citing an ongoing investigation.

Injury accidents

  • A 21-year-old Douglas County woman received treatment at Lawrence Memorial Hospital after a wreck late Monday on Upper River Road. Amanda Owens, 21, was driving a pickup truck eastbound near East 350 Road about 11:40 p.m. Monday when she missed a curve, left the roadway, and hit railroad tracks and a concrete bridge, according to a report. She was taken by ambulance to Lawrence Memorial Hospital, where she was treated and released.

Burglaries and thefts reported

  • A Haskell Indian Nations University employee reported 12 spotted eagle tailfeathers worth $1,500 missing. The 52-year-old man told police he hired a 45-year-old man to arrange the feathers into a fan. He gave the man the feathers and $20, but so far the work hasn’t been done, and he’d heard the man was trying to sell the feathers, according to a police report.
