The 24th annual Lawrence Art Auction earned a record amount of money to support the center’s exhibition program during the coming year.

The auction generated approximately $66,500 — up from last year’s record $62,609.

An estimated 600 people — more than ever before — attended the event April 24 at the Lawrence Arts Center, which was officiated by volunteer auctioneer Kasey Wold.

Two hundred five works by 186 artists were offered in both silent and live auctions, selling for approximately $55,000. In addition, ticket sales generated $3,500.

More than 100 community volunteers helped on auction night, including members of the Lawrence Arts Center Board and members of the National Art Honor Society of Free State High School and their adviser, Laurie McLane Higginson.

Seventy-eight of the 205 auction items sold for prices more than the retail asking price

• Featured artist Jim Brothers bronze sculpture “Promise,” listed at $3,400, sold for $4,800
• Colette Bangert’s mixed media work, “The Blue Curves: Over September,” listed for $1,200, sold for $2,000
• Jon Eric Narum’s oil painting, “Allure,” listed at $400, sold for $625
• Clark Fulton’s watercolor, “Forest View II,” listed at $300, sold for $525
• Roger Shimomura’s serigraph “7 Views of a Japanese Restaurant No. 4,” listed for $1,000, sold for $1,700
• Robert Sudlow’s untitled oil painting on Cadillac paper, listed at $1,000, sold for $2,350
• Elinor Toutellot’s oil painting, “Prairie Imagined,” listed at $500, sold for $975
• Margaret Morris’ oil painting “Kansas,” listed at $1,450, sold for $2,050
• Joanie Whitenight’s oil painting, “Mill Creek,” listed at $400, sold for $950
