‘Sex and the City’ auction lucrative

New York — “Sex and the City” wardrobe and memorabilia fetched more than $44,000 for charity in an auction that ended a day after the HBO series ended its six-year run.

The 10-day auction on ebay.com ended Feb. 23, raised $18,525 with six autographed scripts and $11,653 with four autographed posters of Sarah Jessica Parker as sex columnist Carrie. Other big sellers:

  • A Vivienne Westwood blue plaid dress worn by Carrie, which sold for $5,600.
  • A Badgley Mischka wedding dress worn by Charlotte (Kristin Davis) during her wedding to Harry. The dress, with a wine stain from the wedding scene, sold for $5,600.
  • Miranda’s (Cynthia Nixon) bouquet from her marriage to Steve, which collected $900.

Global style

New York — An unheralded fashion staple is finally getting its due with “Headwraps” (Public Affairs Books), a globe-trotting book about the influence of the functional, often beautiful garment.

Author Georgia Scott, an art director at The New York Times who also took the photos for the book, traveled to 32 countries in researching the significance of the garments and found them in such far-flung places as India, Europe, China, Malaysia, Nigeria and Morocco.

Scott recounts her journeys and the strikingly different headwraps she encountered — made from silk, muslin, cotton, gauze, wool and other fabrics — that ranged in meaning from a nod to African ancestry in the United States to a symbol of national pride in the Czech Republic.
