Author to speak on peace at Lawrence Public Library

Animal rights activist Judy Carman, McLouth, will speak on “Creating a New Culture of Non-Violence” at 7 p.m. Tuesday at the Lawrence Public Library, 707 Vt.

A discussion and book signing will follow. The event is free and open to the public.

Carman is the author of “Peace to All Beings: Veggie Soup for the Chicken’s Soul,” named one of the 50 best spiritual books of 2003 by Spirituality and Health magazine, and co-founder of Animal Outreach of Kansas. She believes animal rights are inextricably tied to environmental protection, world peace and social justice.

Kansas Library Card ups research resources

The Kansas Library Network Board has devised a plan to make library resources more readily available to more Kansans.

Kansas Library Cards are available by signing up at any Kansas library. The card offers online access to a wealth of resources, including the World Book Encyclopedia, and databases tailored to young researchers, Hispanic users and people researching genealogy. E-books also are available.
